Kenneth Walker Dance Project premieres new works in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA: July 7, 2008 – Kenneth Walker Dance Project (KWDP), a contemporary ballet company and Lester Horton Award nominee, based in Southern California, premieres new works along with audience favorites for the fourth season in a row on Saturday, July 19, 7:30 pm at Diavolo Performance Space, 616 Moulton Avenue, Los Angeles 90031. Tickets are $14 in advance, $22 for Gala, $10 for Students/Seniors, and $8 Dance Resource Center members. Visit www.kennethwalkerdanceproject.org/shows.htm to purchase tickets.

KWDP’s presentation of “From the Harbor to the Heights” will showcase the collaborative premiere of Gate set to the avant-garde music of Italian composer, Mario Salvucci. Transient memory continues the tradition of Mr. Walker’s ability to create beautiful pas de deux in new ways that captivate and enthrall his audiences. All that Glitters and Flesh and Blood return to the active repertoire by popular demand.

Kenneth Walker Dance Project, comprised of eight professional dancers from Southern California, is a vehicle for nationally recognized choreographer Kenneth Walker. KWDP appeared at the prestigious Piccolo Spoleto Festivals in Charleston, South Carolina in 2006 and 2007, the AAPHERD Southeast Conference in Virginia and the 2008 American Dance Guild Festival in New York. KWDP has also appeared at the Los Angeles Dance Invitational, Palm Desert Dance Under the Stars, Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica, and Central Coast Summerfest in Monterey, California. Mr. Walker’s choreography has been well received. John Meehan former director of ABT Studio Company, now currently with Hong Kong Ballet, described Walker’s Savage Grace as “…a fun piece, full of energy with some nice choreographic invention;” and, Alun Jones, former director of Louisville Ballet called Savage Grace “tremendous.”
